Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment
As a Department of Education facility, the Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre - Beach School adheres to the safety standards required by the department. For all program activities, TBOEEC takes responsibility for Curriculum Activity Risk Assessments deemed to be of a high risk.

Visiting schools have a responsibility to ensure the following is completed:
- Print the appropriate CARA form and attach it to your completed ‘Variation to School Routine’.
- Ensure Beach School medical consent form has been completed by all staff and students.
- For Special Needs students (impairments, behavioural issues, medical conditions or dietary requirements) it is the responsibility of your school to liaise with parents to formulate a management plan. This may require the completion of a Beach School Specific medical condition form.
After collaboration with parents your school, if necessary, can contact the Beach School to develop systems to ensure that individual needs can be catered for. Any additional forms that have been completed must be attached to the individuals Medical Consent Form.
Quality programs and safety procedures are paramount to the operations of the Tallebudgera Beach Outdoor Education School. This is achieved through:
- Highly trained and qualified instructional staff:
- Senior First Aid Certificate – annually updated.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate – annually updated.
- Cert. 2 Public Safety Aquatic Rescue/Pool Lifeguard
- Canoeing Basic Skills Certificate
- Canoeing/Kayaking Guide
- Motor Boat License
- Restricted Coxswains Certificate
- All staff are involved with an annual induction that includes:
- Child Protection / Code of Conduct
- Manual Handling
- Fire Training
- Managing Risks in School Curriculum Activities
- Site specific and relevant work area training
- Facilities are regularly inspected and well maintained
- CARAs are comprehensively reviewed by all instructional staff annually, with changes and modifications made throughout the year based on best practice.
- Procedures are in place to effectively deal with emergency situations at all venues.
- Each camp is reviewed weekly to streamline procedures ensuring best practice through program efficiency,
- effectiveness and safety.
- Mobile phones, first aid kits and student medication are carried with group leaders for off site activities.
- Daily program flexibility to modify activities, relocated or seek activity alternatives.
- The school has a fully qualified Workplace Health and Safety Officer and has Quarterly Workplace, Healthy
- and Safety meetings.
- The Beach School complies with the departments ‘Sun Smart Policy’.
- The Beach School has completed a Curriculum Activity Risk Assessments for medium and high risk activities. Incorporated within this document are the control measures implemented by the Beach School to ensure risks are avoided or minimised.
